Malaysian Operators Fund Rural Broadband Expansion

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is soliciting proposals from operators regarding the subsidised deployment of broadband services in underserved rural and sparsely populated areas of the country. The MCMC is dipping into its MYR5bn (US$1.47bn) universal service provision (USP) fund and aims to have MYR1.5bn (US$442mn) worth of finance in place for key projects by the end of 2009.
