Bolsa Familiar To Be Extended To Mobiles

The Brazilian government is in discussions with mobile operators to create a 'Bolsa Celular' (mobile bursary) as part of its Bolsa Familiar programme. The plan is to offer free handsets to families under the Bolsa Familiar social programme as well as BRL7 (US$4.09) a month in call credit. The Bolsa Familiar programme includes 11mn families, reaching more than 46mn people, many of which are located in the poorer North and North East regions of Brazil.
