Operators To Lower Prices To Gain Access To Dollars
October 2009 | Regulatory DevelopmentThe Venezuelan government has ordered mobile operators Movistar and Digicel to lower the prices of handsets by at least half before the end of the year. The decree came from Minister for Science, Technology and Intermediary Industries Jesse Chacón, targeting the two non-government owned operators. Chacón said that the allocation of dollars at the official exchange rate could be reviewed if prices are not lowered.
