Pigeon Highlights Backbone Paucity

A rather whimsical stunt conducted in South Africa to demonstrate the acute problems with the broadband service available there has been receiving a good deal of attention in the international media. South African information technology company Unlimited IT staged a race between a carrier pigeon and an ADSL connection provided by South African fixed-line incumbent Telkom, and, as was the intention, Winston, the carrier pigeon, won.
