Philippines Reports Robust Wireless Broadband Demand

The number of broadband subscribers in the Philippines is set to reach 2mn by the end of 2009, according to estimates released by the chairman of the House Committee for information and communications technology (ICT), Joseph Santiago. Telecoms market leader PLDT reported 1.2mn broadband subscribers as of June 2009, with second-ranked Globe Telecom on 379,308 subscribers. Aside from PLDT and Globe Telecom, a further two operators, BayanTel and Digitel, provide broadband services.
