Down But Not Out - Mobile Resisting Downturn

The fact that du has posted record quarterly profits is in many ways no surprise at all. Having launched services in February 2007, du posted its first ever profit in the final quarter of 2008, and profits would be expected to keep growing at least for a few quarters. However, the new income at AED57.65mn (US$15.7mn) is a little above the consensus forecast, according to Reuters. Speaking even more highly of du's ongoing performance is the fact that it managed to add to its mobile subscriber base in Q209, while rival Etisalat lost subscribers in tough conditions that have seen many expatriate workers leaving the country.
