Asiacell Reactivates Newly Registered Users

Iraq's second-ranked mobile operator Asiacell has announced that, after disconnecting 500,000 unregistered prepaid users, in accordance with government demands, it has succeeded in reconnecting 80% of them after they came forward to register their details. The move, which appears to be the first of any from Iraq's operators to comply with SIM registration requirements, may suggest that a move toward universal registration will not be nearly as damaging to the Iraqi mobile market as it has been elsewhere, such as Pakistan or Bangladesh.
