India Joins China In Providing Telecoms Loans

Sierra Leone's telecoms incumbent Sierratel has revealed that it secured a loan agreement for US$29.5mn with India. The money is to be used to update Sierratel's fixed-line network, converting most of the copper wires to fibre-optic technology. This is a significant project, but is helped by the fact that the fixed-line network is not very extensive. The government has even proposed extending the reach of current networks in the capital city and other major towns.
