Asiacell Wants To Invest In Bandwidth Booster

Iraq's second-ranked mobile operator by customer numbers, Asiacell, is ready and willing to invest in fibre-optic links that would drastically improve the country's bandwidth capacity, reports The National. There is talk of a project to link the southern Iraqi port of Basra to Fujairah of the UAE via a sub-marine fibre-optic cable that would provide much-needed extra international bandwidth. Asiacell also claims to have plans to build national fibre-optic backbone infrastructure within Iraq. The company says it is waiting only for government approval.
