Atmosphere Of Excitement Building Around The Mobile Market

Zimbabwe's mobile market continues to grow as African mobile colossus, MTN, unequivocally declared its interest, as reported by Business Day. In an unusual move for the South Africa-based company, it has declared its firm intension to move on Zimbabwe before a distinct plan is in place. According to an MTN spokesperson, there is some possibility of bidding for a possible new licence, although the government's plans are not entirely clear yet. Another option for MTN could be through the privatisation of government-owned NetOne, but at present the company's preferred target appears to be acquiring control of mobile operator Telecel from Orascom subsidiary Telecel Globe.
