It has been a mixed week for Swedish equipment manufacturer Ericsson. The vendor is entering a tough year, with the global slowdown and increasing competition from Asia threatening its income. Worse than expected Q408 results from Ericsson's joint venture handset manufacturing business, Sony Ericsson, did nothing to sweeten the pill. However, industry reports that telecoms companies will still be willing to invest in network expansions and upgrades, even as they cut back on capital expenditure in general, were backed up when Ericsson signed a new contract with TeliaSonera, for what looks likely to be one of the first commercial deployments of an LTE, 4G network.
