Removal Of Restrictions Brings Huge Growth

The Cuban mobile market reached 330,000 subscribers at the end of 2008, representing an annual growth rate of 66.6%. This is more than twice the expansion rate in 2007 and four times higher than in 2006. The exceptional increase comes eight months after President Raúl Castro, who replaced his ailing brother Fidel Castro as president in February 2008, removed some restrictions on the ownership of certain items, including mobile phones, microwaves and DVD players.
