US$400mn To Expand Wireless Network

Ethiopia's monopoly telecoms operator, Ethiopian Telecommunication Corporation (ETC), has signed a deal with Chinese equipment manufacturer ZTE that will be worth US$400mn over the next four to five years, according to cellular-news. The agreement requires ZTE to help ETC expand its network to make the mobile network available to 64% of the population, and the fixed-wireless network to 90%. This is the latest in a string of deals between the two companies, as ETC attempts to expand its network to keep up with the growing demand for telecommunications services in Ethiopia.
