Hong Kong To Auction BWA Licences In 2009
October 2008 | Industry NewsBids for broadband wireless access (BWA) licences, expected to be used for the provision of WiMAX services, are being invited by Hong Kong's Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA). The radio spectrum being auctioned is 195MHz (90MHz from the 2.3GHz band and 105MHz from the 2.5/2.6GHz bands), divided into 12 frequency bands, each with varying bandwidths of between 5MHz to 30MHz. Each bidder may submit applications for a combination of frequency bands, but will be capped at 30MHz. The auction is due to be held in January 2009, with OFTA accepting proposals from both new entrants and incumbent licensees.
