Sprint Nextel Launches 4G WiMAX Service
September 2008 | Company News AlertSprint Nextel, the third largest mobile operator in the US by subscriber figures, has commercially launched its 4G wireless broadband (WiMAX) service in Baltimore, Maryland. This is the first step in the operator's planned national deployment of Sprint Nextel's Xohm service. Its choice of Baltimore as the initial area of deployment for its WiMAX network, covering 70% of the population, is due to it being 'a well-defined market that will allow us to validate our business case and text and refine marketing messages,' according to its spokesman John Polivka.
