Mobitel To Focus Tariff On Niche Market
September 2008 | Company News AlertMobitel, the mobile operating arm of incumbent Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), is to launch a new tariff directed specifically at public sector workers in an effort to raise its subscriber base by 300,000 in the last quarter of 2008 to end on 2.4mn users. The announcement follows a similar package directed at civil servants. The 'Upahara' tariff has achieved over 10,000 new subscribers per day since it was commercially launched. The country has over 1.1mn state workers, accounting for 5.5% of an assumed population size of 20mn and, according to Lanka Business Online, could make it 'the largest ratio of civil service per head of population in the world.'
