Nextel Records 85% Increase In Profit

Latin American digital trunking operator Nextel has reported an 84.5% year-on-year (y-o-y) increase in profits for Q208. The operator is owned by US holding company NII Holdings and offers mobile services to Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Peru, as well as having a licence to offer services in Chile. Nextel focuses on the corporate market, meaning that its market share is below 5% in each of the countries in which it operates, but that it reports the highest ARPU of any operator in Latin America. Nextel offers push-to-talk services to 5.4mn subscribers across the region.
