The three largest fixed-line operators in the US, AT&T, Verizon and Qwest, have teamed up to help prevent the loss of subscribers to cable operators. From now on, when subscribers move to an area in which their present fixed-line supplier does not operate, they will be referred to a website to offer help in switching service provider. However, customers will not be given information regarding cable operators, in an attempt to stem the loss of subscribers to these operators. As fixed-line competition increases in a shrinking market it seems the largest operators have gone on the attack in order to maintain market share against their smaller rivals.
