Batelco Sets Sights On New Markets, Acquisitions

Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) is planning to spend approximately US$4bn on making strategic acquisitions in Africa, India and the Asia Pacific region as it seeks to diversify its business into new markets in the face of increasing competition at home and within the Middle East in general. Indeed, CEO Peter Kaliaropoulos is dismissive of speculation that the company is planning a major purchase in the Middle East area, saying that telecoms assets in the region are now overpriced.
