Brasil Telecom Trials WiFi Fixed-Mobile Service

Brazilian telecoms operator Brasil Telecom has announced that it is trialling a SIP WiFi version of its fixed-mobile telephony service, Único. The operator also signed a contract with equipment supplier Ericsson to deploy an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) solution and to provide a W-CDMA/HSPA network, helping Brasil Telecom to expand its broadband services and extend the reach of its mobile operations. The WiFi version of its fixed-mobile service was announced in February 2007, with the intention that the service be launched before the end of that year, a definite launch date has not been announced.
