Entel Aims For 150,000 WiMAX Subscribers By YE08

Chile's largest telecoms operator, Entel, has announced, along with its Q108 results, that it intends to sign up between 100,000 and 150,000 WiMAX subscribers by the end of 2008. The company, which offers fixed-line, mobile and internet services, launched its WiMAX services in the Peñalolén area in September 2006, after stating it would invest US$5mn to establish the network. Along with announcing a 5.1% year-on-year (y-o-y) increase in net income for Q108, the company confirmed it would increase its investment by a further US$120mn in this year having announced, only a month earlier, a 25% y-o-y increase in capex to US$350mn.
