Axis Launches National GSM Services

April 2008 | Company News Alert

Indonesia has welcomed a new addition to its mobile market. Axis, owned by Natrindo Telepon Seluler (NTS) and formerly branded Lippotel, has announced the commercial launch of its national GSM services. In effect, this is seen as a re-launch accompanied by a fortified network covering East and West Java, as well as the Jabodetabek area. By the end of this year, the operator's total number of base stations is set to reach 3,700 as its coverage spreads to Banten, North Sumatra, Central Java, Bali and Lombok. Further, Axis will have spent US$1bn as of YE08 largely on its network expansion in Java and Sumatra.
