Ofcom To Auction 3G And WiMAX Spectrum

April 2008 | Industry News

The UK telecoms regulator Ofcom has announced that the largest spectrum auction in the UK will be held in May 2008. The spectrum auctioned is intended for the provision of WiMAX and 3G services for an initial term of 20 years, although the licences have no definite duration. A total of 205MHz of spectrum will be available in the 2010-2025MHz band and 2500-2690MHz band. Although it is intended for 3G and WiMAX services, the spectrum will be technology neutral, allowing operators to use their allocation as they please.
