Smart Launches i-mode Service

Smart Communications, the mobile unit of Filipino incumbent operator PLDT, has joined the global i-mode family. The operator will launch i-mode services (created by Japan's NTT), for its contract customers in mid-March 2008. Through the provision of a range of applications including i-mail (sending e-mails over handsets) to be charged at the same cost of sending an SMS at PHP1, Smart hopes to see customers migrate onto the i-mode platform.
