Hondutel Relaunches Mobile Services

March 2008 | Company News Alert

Hondutel, the state-owned incumbent operator, is to bring its three mobile operations under one national mobile brand during April this year. At present, Hondutel provides mobile services to Tegucel, Sulacel and Ceibacel in the capital Tegucigalpa, and in the cities of San Pedro Sula and Ceiba. A major reason for Hondutel's decision to provide blanket network coverage is partially on account of the threat it faces from fourth mobile operator Digicel, which entered the market in 2007, and Hondutel's considerably poor market share of 0.38% (Q407). Tigo, owned by Millicom International, and America Movil's Claro reported shares of 74% and 26% respectively.
