Vodafone Eyes Bangladesh, Reports Strong Results

Gavin Darby, the CEO for Vodafone in Asia, Africa and China, met with a representative of Bangladesh's Ministry of Communications stating he was 'excited by the growth possibilities in Bangladesh.' The potential for growth in the market is best illustrated by newcomer Warid Telecom. Launching services in April 2007, the operator had a subscriber base of 1.75mn in its first six months of operation. In part, this is on account of Bangladesh's mobile market, which remains poorly penetrated. With all the country's operators offering lower tariffs and investing heavily in their network infrastructure, mobile subscriber growth continues to be rapid.
