Max Telecom Adds To BTC Competition
October 2007 | Company News AlertAfter several years of monopoly, Bulgaria's incumbent operator BTC now majority owned by AIG's global investment fund, is facing heightened levels of competition, first through cable operator CableTel and now increasingly from WiMAX service providers Nexcom and Max Telecom. Whilst Nexcom, supported by investment funds Intel Capital and MCM Management was the first to win a nationwide WiMAX licence, Max Telecom has now announced its plans to roll out a national wireless broadband network based on mobile WiMAX technology, with solutions supplied by Navini Networks. Marketed under brands such as MaxDSL, MaxCard and MaxVoice, the network will develop a highly efficient network providing high-speed mobile internet access nationwide offering rapid and reliable data transfer as well as cost effective telecommunications services. The operator hopes to cover 90% of the population by the end of 2008.
