Batelco Reports Above-Target 3.5G Subscriptions

Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) launched its new 3.5G offering, O Mobile, late in Q407 and aimed to have signed up 30,000 customers by the end of the year. The company reports that it surpassed this target and was serving 38,000 customers at year's end. Based on HSDPA technology, the O Mobile service portfolio includes mobile broadband, mobile video calling, mobile video conferencing and a mobile internet portal and related content. The HSDPA platform has been rolled out to almost all of Bahrain at an initial cost of US$19.4mn.
