Vodafone Essar Looks To Acquisitions For Additional Spectrum

India's third largest mobile operator, Vodafone Essar, has said that it is considering acquiring smaller operators in order to continue expanding services. The operator, owned by the UK's Vodafone Group, has stated that it needs more radio spectrum for further expansion into India and would look to acquiring operators if further spectrum did not become available. Vodafone Essar has just completed its first year of operations in India since purchasing Hutchison Telecom International Ltd 's 67% stake in the operator, which was then known as Hutchison Essar, in February 2007. Vodafone Essar has fast become the Vodafone Group's largest subsidiary, with just under 40mn subscribers reported in December 2007.
