Warid Signs MNP Deal in Pakistan

Despite a certain amount of disquiet about the impact of mobile number portability (MNP) in Pakistan, Abu Dhabi-based operator Warid Telecom has just selected a MNP solution from US manufacturer Telcordia. The Number Portability Gateway will allow consumers in Pakistan to switch providers without the effort of changing telephone numbers. If successful, MNP should increase the levels of churn from operator to operator, thereby making the market more competitive, and ensuring a high quality of service supplied by operators. However, as yet, it is unclear as to whether MNP has been a success with figures suggesting that just 18,500 consumers have signed up for MNP.
