Chile First To Receive Telefónica IPTV Service

Telefónica Chile has launched IPTV services in the capital of Santiago, its first in Latin America. The service will complement the operator's existing digital satellite TV services as it tries to secure a larger share of the country's pay TV market, dominated by VTR (71% share). It is perhaps surprising that Telefónica should chose Chile as the starting point for its IPTV rollout, considering that it is does not have the most developed pay TV customer base. Telefónica del Peru had 561,100 pay TV subscribers in March 2007, compared to Telefónica Chile with 129,100 pay TV customers.
