Globacom Sets Sights On Ghanaian Market

While regional peers such as Senegal, Cameroon and Mali have just two operators each, Ghana's market already boasts four players, three of which are owned by established international operators. The market is lead by Areeba, now under the control of South Africa's MTN after its 2006 acquisition of Investcom. The next largest operator is Tigo, a subsidiary of Millicom International Cellular, which has several operations in Africa in addition to a wide telecoms portfolio in Latin America. The other two contenders are One Touch, a unit of incumbent fixed-line provider Ghana Telecom and Kasapa, controlled by the Hong Kong-based Hutchison group.
