Telekom Malaysia Highlights Overseas Subscriber Growth

June 2007 | Company Finance Alert

In March 2006, Celcom , Telekom Malaysia's domestic mobile unit contributed a third of the group's international subscriber base. Today, this ratio has plummeted to 21% as Malaysia's market becomes more saturated, and the operator has been displaced as Malaysia's market leader by Maxis . This is hardly a new phenomenon for Telekom Malaysia, which has been restructuring steadily over the last year in preparation for the inevitable saturation of its domestic market. Indeed, in March 2006, through its unit Excelcomindo , the far more populous market of Indonesia already contributed more users to its customer base (8.2mn) than Celcom.
