Maroc Telecom Completes Undersea French Link

Morocco's leading telecoms operator Maroc Telecom has announced the completion of its new submarine cable linking Asilah in northwest Morocco with the French city of Marseilles. The link, known as the Atlas Offshore cable, was built by French telecoms equipment vendor Alcatel-Lucent, as part of a US$34mn contract signed in July 2006. Maroc Telecom, which is majority controlled by French media conglomerate Vivendi, hopes the link will improve its regional connectivity, increase its international broadband capacity and increase its ability to develop high-speed services.
