Orascom Acquisition Plans Fuel Investor Confidence

April 2007 | Company Spotlight

BMI has watched Egypt's Orascom Telecom go from strength to strength over the last few years. In 2006, the holding company increased its subscriber base by 70.4% thanks to strong growth across all its subsidiaries. By the end of the year, it had 51.5mn subscribers in six markets across Asia and the Middle East, as well as a stake in international operator HTIL, part of the Hong Kong-based Hutchison empire. This strong growth has inspired investor confidence in the group, which is traded in Egypt and on the London Stock Exchange, with its share price expected to rise strongly during 2007. Over the last three years, the value of Orascom's total assets has risen from US$2.87bn to US$8.67bn.
