Telmex Troubled By Regulatory Changes

Since the second half of 2006, Mexico-based fixed line giant Telmex has been on an acquisition spree in Colombia, aggressively seeking to grow its share of the cable TV market, which now stands at 52%, with a subscriber base of 760,000 subscribers. Telmex presently owns three cable operators - Superview, Cable Pacifico, TV Cable - and is also in the process of, subject to regulatory approval, wholly acquiring a further two cable TV companies, Cablecentro, Colombia's second largest cable operator by subscriber figures, and Satelcaribe.
