Warid Telecom Lands Its Fourth Mobile Licence

Telecoms regulatory body, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has awarded a GSM mobile operating licence to Warid Telecom, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Group. The licence is being offered on a temporary basis for a year, but has the possibility of becoming a formal licence upon expiry. This will add to the operator's existing presence in the Pakistan, Bangladesh and Congo Brazzaville mobile markets, all of which like Uganda offer room for growth, given their existing low penetration rates.
