Vodacom Free To Explore New Opportunities

South Africa's leading mobile operator Vodacom has been freed from restrictions held in place by an agreement it has with UK-based mobile giant Vodafone, its 50:50 joint owner with fixed-line operator Telkom, regarding its M&A activities. Under the terms of the original agreement, Vodacom was prohibited from seeking out opportunities for growth in Africa. Vodacom was unable to act as a direct competitor to Vodafone for tenders in the region, but allowed to jointly enter bids with the UK operator.
