Nextel Seeks To Offer WiMAX In Argentina

Digital trunking provider Nextel Argentina has announced the signing of a preliminary deal with Datco, over the acquisition of the telecoms and IT company's broadband network unit VeloCom. Nextel Argentina, which is a subsidiary of US holding company NII Holdings, is following in the footsteps of another US operator, Sprint Nextel, as it seeks to add WiMAX technology to its service offering. In August, Sprint Nextel announced its intentions to make a USD1bn investment in 2007 and nearly double that amount in 2008 in partnership with Intel, Motorola and Samsung.
