Strong Mobile Growth Continues On Back Of Comcel

Colombia's mobile market continues to exceed expectations with impressive growth rates - the market grew by 28% in H106 (79% y-o-y), led by América Móvil's Comcel. BMI has made further upward revisions to forecasts in its latest BMI Colombia Telecommunications Report, and now anticipates penetration will top 72% by YE06 and 100% by 2010. While Movistar is focusing attention on signing up GSM and contract subscribers, Comcel's growth is virtually all coming in the prepaid segment, and the operator is recording significant slowdown in ARPU and usage levels.
