EASSy Does It With Project Awarded To Alcatel

A consortium of 15 African countries seeking to lay a cable to connect the East African coastline to the global fibre optic network has awarded the contract to French telecoms equipment vendor Alcatel. The contract, valued at KES15bn was approved after a two-year process in selecting a suitable vendor to conduct the project, known as EASSy, which is due to begin in August 2006.
