Bahrain Holds More Hope In FWA Licences

July 2006 | Market Trend Analysis

Faced with a declining fixed-line market, Bahrain's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is to award fixed-wireless access (FWA) licences. According to BMI forecasts, this year is expected to see penetration rates fall, albeit marginally as the adoption of mobile services continues to rise. The announcement comes on the back of last month's announcement by the TRA and Ministry of Transportation regarding the spectrum policy for Bahrain. There will be two licences made available on the 3.5GHz spectrum to bidders through established auctions. Pre-qualification details of the auction are to be announced at a later date, alongside application and auction deadline dates.
