Alcatel Losses Mirror Poor Performance At Lucent

French telecoms equipment vendor Alcatel has reported an 8% y-o-y fall in its Q206 net profits to EUR180mn, on the back of declining margins in a competitive telecoms equipment industry. However, the vendor pointed to its one off gain of EUR12mn relating to the sale of its fixed assets, helping to boost its latest net profits. As for revenues, these were up by 7.6% y-o-y to EUR3.38bn, helped by strong sales of its broadband internet equipment in its fixed-line unit. Alcatel singled out its sales of triple play and enterprise applications as the driving force behind its IP data business,
