Brazil Angers LatAm Industry Over Digital TV Standard Choice
July 2006 | Project NewsFollowing speculation over which digital TV standard would be employed in Brazil, the government has announced that it will adopt the ATSC standard employed in Asian countries such as South Korea and Japan. The decision has angered many industry insiders, which claim that the government's choice is no more than a political ploy and is not one based on what would be best for the industry and its connections with the rest of Latin America, which could leave Brazil isolated among its peers. Brazil is to undergo an election in October 2006, with Siemens Brazil spokesman Mario Baumgarten stating that:
