KDDI Unsettles DoCoMo As Subscriber Growth Fades

For the first time in six months, Japan's No 2 mobile operator KDDI was able to boast a greater number of net additions to its subscriber base than its rival NTT DoCoMo for the month of May. Whilst DoCoMo recorded 133,800 new subscribers, KDDI added 148,700. Meanwhile, Vodafone KK, having been acquired by Softbank in March 2006 posted a paltry net increase of 1,100. Softbank is due to rename the operation as Softbank Mobile in October
