UAE Rejects US Pressure To Open Telecoms Sector

Following on from this, the UAE announced on May 12, that it would not open up its telecoms sector to foreign companies before 2015, the Kingdom has now called upon the US to open up its telecoms sector. After completing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks, with the two countries unable to reach a compromise regarding the liberalisation of the UAE's telecoms market, UAE minister of Government Sector Development Sultan bin Saeed al-Mansouri said: "The UAE is suggesting to advance the date (of liberalisation) to 2010, as a compromise from our side, given that we get something in exchange."
