South Africa Gets First HSDPA Services

Two of South Africa's leading mobile phone operators, MTN and Vodacom, have launched HSDPA services. 'To date, we have activated HSDPA on our highest usage 3G sites, making commercial HSDPA available to subscribers in most urban areas', said MTN's head of marketing, Bernice Samuels. The operator's 3G network currently covers Gauteng, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth. MTN has said that it will invest over R600mn this year on the rollout of its 3G
