Parliament Proving Problematic For Swisscom Privatisation
May 2006 | Privatisation AlertThe Swiss parliament has thrown a spanner in the works of the government's plans to privatise incumbent telecoms company Swisscom. The parliament's lower house narrowly rejected the move in a vote held on May 10. A vote by the upper house will follow shortly, with a conciliation procedure possible should it vote in favour of the plans. However, this first defeat is a blow to the Swiss government, which has repeatedly expressed its desire to fully privatise the operator.
