Multinational mobile network operator Orange has teamed up with mobile games developer Gameloft to promote the use of mobile games and related services in Africa and the Middle East. Orange clearly hopes to drive increased usage of non-voice services in many of the 22 regional markets in which it operates, but will find it difficult to halt or at least slow the overall trend of declining ARPU. Nevertheless, the inclusion of key cross-cultural properties such as the Real Football franchise will certainly help it find new customers, even in markets where access to 3G networks and smartphones remains poor.
