Honduras To Launch Social Telecoms Fund

The Honduran Congress has announced the creation of a Social Telecommunications Fund (Fostel). The fund aims to increase coverage and finance educational programmes, particularly in rural and marginalised urban zones. In an underdeveloped market like Honduras, BMI welcomes the proactive development of the integral communications sector. However, the Honduran market faces a number of challenges such as corruption, poor security and the lack of government revenue, which may hinder the effectiveness of the project. As a result, BMI has refrained from adjusting our forecasts until further details are released.
